- Format and style elements
After inserting think-cell elements, you can change how they look. You can choose formatting and styling options on an element's mini toolbar.
To open the mini toolbar, select one or more elements that you want to format. The options on the mini toolbar are specific to the elements that you select.
This section describes general formatting and styling options. To learn about specific options for a particular element, see the element's section in the user manual. For example, for more information about styling checkboxes, see Checkboxes.
Format and style text
The following sections explain how to format and style text using the mini toolbar:
- Change the font and font size
- Change the font color
- Change the text alignment
- Change the text direction
You can also format and style text in an element with PowerPoint's built-in formatting options (see Apply PowerPoint text formatting).
Change the font and font size
To change an element's font or font size, select the text to open the mini toolbar. On the mini toolbar, select Font, then select the font and font size that you want.
Note: The default fonts in your presentation determine the options that appear in the Font menu. You can change the default fonts in your presentation in PowerPoint Slide Master view (see Microsoft Support). Alternatively, you can specify a default text style for all think-cell elements by customizing the think-cell style file (see Customize the default text style).
Change the font color
To change an element's font color, select the text to open the mini toolbar. On the mini toolbar, select Font Color, then select one of the following:
- A color, including a recently used custom color (see Select recently used custom colors).
- Custom: Select a color with Custom Color Picker (see Custom color picker).
- Eyedropper: Match the element's font color to another color on the slide (see Eyedropper). On Mac, you can find the eyedropper in Custom Color Picker.
- Use Datasheet Font Color: If the element is linked to an Excel range, you can match the font color to the linked cell's font color (see Match element formatting to the linked data range). In think-cell Essentials, if an element is already linked to an Excel range, you can select Use Datasheet Font Color to match the font color of the element to the font color of the linked Excel cell. To link elements to Excel ranges, you need think-cell Suite.
Change the text alignment
To change the text alignment in an element, select the text to open the mini toolbar, then choose from the following options:
- On Horizontal Alignment, select Left, Center, or Right.
- On Vertical Alignment, select Top, Middle, or Bottom.
Change the text direction
To change the text direction in an element, select the text to open the mini toolbar, then select one of the following:
- Rotate text 90° to the left
- Horizontal text (default)
- Rotate text 90° to the right
Apply PowerPoint text formatting
You can apply PowerPoint's built-in font and paragraph formatting to think-cell elements. To apply PowerPoint formatting to elements, follow these steps:
- Select the text that you want to change. To format text in multiple elements, select the elements that you want to format (see Select multiple objects).
- On the PowerPoint ribbon, go to the Home tab. In the Font and Paragraph groups, select the formatting options that you want.
Fills
Fills for think-cell elements include colors and patterns from think-cell, colors from the chosen PowerPoint theme (see Microsoft Support), your organization's colors, and custom colors.
To apply a fill to an element, select the element to open the mini toolbar. On the mini toolbar, select Fill, then select one the following:
- A fill, including a recently used custom color (see Select recently used custom colors).
- Custom: Select a color with Custom Color Picker (see Custom color picker).
- Eyedropper: Match the color to another color on the slide (see Eyedropper). On Mac, you can find the eyedropper in Custom Color Picker.
- Use Datasheet Fill: If the element is linked to an Excel range, you can match the element's fill to the linked cell's fill (see Match element formatting to the linked data range). To link elements to Excel ranges, you need think-cell Suite.
Note: If your presentation contains a think-cell chart, you can change the chart's color scheme (see Chart fill scheme).
Outlines
To add an outline to an element, select the element to open the mini toolbar. On the mini toolbar, select Line Style, then select a line style.
To remove the outline of an element, select the element to open the mini toolbar. On the mini toolbar, select Outline Color or Line Style, then select No outline.
Change the outline color
To change an element's outline color, select the element to open the mini toolbar. On the mini toolbar, select Outline Color, then select one the following:
- A color, including a recently used custom color (see Select recently used custom colors).
- Custom: Select a color with Custom Color Picker (see Custom color picker).
- Eyedropper: Match the outline color to another color on the slide (see Eyedropper). On Mac, you can find the eyedropper in Custom Color Picker.
Change the line style and weight
To change a line's style and weight, select the element to open the mini toolbar. On the mini toolbar, select Line Style, then select a line style and line weight.
Custom color picker
You can apply custom colors to elements with the think-cell color picker.
To open the color picker, select the element that you want to apply the color to. On the mini toolbar, select a dropdown menu that applies colors, such as Fill, Font Color, or Outline Color, then select Custom.
In Custom Color Picker, on the upper-left dropdown menu, you can change where you want to apply the color. To apply custom colors to different parts of an element without closing Custom Color Picker, after you apply a color, select a different option on the dropdown menu.
On the lower-right dropdown menu, select a color or enter a color value. You can enter the color value in hexadecimal or RGB format. For example, you can enter the color value for red as #ff0000 or R255 G0 B0.
Select a custom color with the color panes
To select a custom color using the top and bottom color panes of Custom Color Picker, follow these steps:
- On the top color pane, choose a hue and saturation.
- On the lower pane, adjust the lightness of the color.
When selecting a color on the color panes, you can make precise adjustments by limiting the color pane cursor movement horizontally or vertically. To limit the color pane cursor movement, select and hold Shift and drag the cursor over the pane. When you select a color, think-cell applies it to the element immediately.
The background of the lower right dropdown menu helps you to preview colors and compare them to the element's current color. The left half of the background shows a preview of the color that you hover over, while the right half displays the element's current color.
Select recently used custom colors
To keep the colors in your presentation consistent, you can access the most recently used custom colors. On the mini toolbar, on the Fill, Font Color, and Outline Color dropdown menus, think-cell saves the most recent custom colors in two groups separated by a divider. The first group of colors are available to anyone using the presentation. The second group of colors are available only on your device. In each group, think-cell saves up to eight colors. When you select a ninth custom color, it replaces the least recent color.
Eyedropper
Use the think-cell eyedropper to apply a color from your current slide to a think-cell element.
To use the eyedropper, follow these steps:
- Select the element that you want to apply the color to.
- On the mini toolbar, select Fill, Font Color, or Outline Color, then select the eyedropper:
- On Windows, select Eyedropper.
- On Mac, select Custom. In Color, select the eyedropper.
- On the current slide, hover over a color. You'll see a preview of the color and either its think-cell name or its RGB value.
- Select the color that you want to apply it to your selection. To close the eyedropper without picking a color, select Esc.
