What's new in think-cell 10

Support for macOS

think-cell now supports macOS in addition to Windows. think-cell works with Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac version 16.8.171111 or later, running on OS X Yosemite (10.10) or later. (learn more)

User Interface

think-cell is now on multiple platforms and we used the opportunity to refresh the user interface. Icons in the Elements menu and context menu have a fresh new look.

Context toolbar with row of chart type icons

In the overhauled Data Links dialog you can easily select all charts linked to a specific Excel source file. Then, update all of them with one click. (learn more)

A pending update to a linked chart is indicated now by a green outline when the chart is selected. You update and revert with buttons in the contextual toolbar. You can also directly switch to automatic updates for this chart.

One less click is necessary to change the chart type, because you choose the new chart type from a row of icons.

Grounded waterfall segments are easier to identify. The respective icon is displayed even when the grounded segment is not currently selected.

Selecting a series in the legend of a scatter or bubble chart highlights all points or bubbles belonging to this series.

Same scale and axes

Because setting charts to the same scale is now persistent, you never need to repeat the setting. If the scale changes in one chart, all charts with the same scale will be updated. You can set charts to the same scale even when their axes are not currently displayed. (learn more)

Using the same scale for multiple charts works even with axis breaks. Setting the same scale does not remove existing breaks, and adding an axis break to one chart will add it to other charts using the same scale.

Value axes support a reversed axis. Scatter and bubble charts support a numerically reversed axis. Column, clustered and area charts simply flip the chart. In a line chart with two axes, you can set one to a reversed order to highlight negative correlations.

Same scale is also supported for a value-based or date-based X axis. For example, you can easily set two line charts to show the same years, even when the date range covered by the data is different. (learn more)

Scatter and bubble charts now support same scale. Whether the X- or Y-axis should use the same scale is set independently.

Save and send slides

When sending slides, you can use Gmail instead of Outlook. To enable this, you set "think-cell Send With Gmail" as the default email program. (learn more)

Default progams dialog with think-cell Send With Gmail selected

The Save Slides command uses a dialog which includes your Quick Access folders. The options to choose which slides to include and whether date and time should be added to the filename are at the bottom of the dialog.

When using "Save Slides..." and "Send Slides..." the filename better represents your choices: if you choose to send the entire presentation, the file name does not contain slides numbers, for example. Also, appending the date and time to the filename can be controlled with the respective dialog box option.

Color and style

The font color of text in labels can be chosen and is not reset, even if the label background changes. (learn more)

Chart with colored labels and font color control

The Load Style File command makes it easy to load previously used style files. Initially it contains all styles included with think-cell for easy selection.

List of recently used files for Load Style File command

The color scheme for new charts is always taken from the think-cell style. The most recently used color scheme is now irrelevant when inserting a new chart. If the current default color scheme is not your preferred color scheme, please use a style file to set your preferred color scheme as default. (learn more)

Include named text fields when preparing templates for JSON automation. You can then create slides with text content based on JSON input while using the full power and flexibility of smart text fields.

Named Text Field element in Elements menu
  • You can call the JSON automation process from the command line.
  • You can run the JSON automation as a server. (learn more)
