C++ On Sea in Kent, UK

June 27, 2023

During the last week of June, think-cell took part in C++ On Sea in the charming coastal town of Folkestone, Kent, UK. We have been constant participants for four years in a row now and were proud silver sponsors of the conference. We were also happy to be sponsoring the conference videos, so that those who couldn’t attend in person can watch all the talks later on cpponsea’s YouTube channel.

It was a valuable time to re-connect with the community, and we thoroughly enjoyed interacting with everyone!

This year, we had three different talks by three different speakers. Arno Schödl our founder and CTO presented his talk “The C++ rvalue lifetime disaster”, our Senior software engineer Sebastian Theophil presented “Nobody can program correctly. Lessons from 20 years of debugging C++ code” and our Software engineer Jonathan Müller spoke about “C++ Features You Might Not Know”. We were honored that we got to contribute this much to the agenda of the conference.

Those who came by our booth were in for a fun activity, spin the wheel, where participants could win socks, reusable metal straws, cookies and last but not least…free drinks! Many attendees stopped by to have a go at their luck and Julia and Anna from our HR team had a lot of fun handing out prizes to the lucky winners!

We also got the chance to talk to conference attendees about what it’s like working at think-cell, covering topics such as not having any scheduled meetings or set deadlines. This seemed to be highly enticing to many! Our Software engineer Jonathan answered questions about what it’s like working remotely for think-cell, being an advocate for it since he only works remotely.

We would like to thank everyone who stopped by our booth to spin the wheel or just to have a chat. It was a pleasure to meet you all.

If you didn’t have the chance to attend the conference and come by our booth, but are interested in finding out more about how we work and our current open positions, follow this link. We would be delighted to hear from you and please don’t hesitate to reach out to our friendly HR team if you have any questions.

A big thank you to the C++ On Sea organisers for another great conference – we hope to be back next year again!
