Conflict with Capital IQ: Internal datasheet opens slowly

Problem

I have Capital IQ and think-cell installed.

When I open think-cell's internal datasheet the first time, it takes a long time (up to 20 seconds) to load. If the Excel process of the internal datasheet is already open, the datasheet opens immediately.

Explanation

According to Capital IQ Support, the Capital IQ Excel add-in tries to communicate and authenticate the add-in with their servers. This load time is close to 9 - 12 seconds without any other add-ins.

The problem can be reproduced without think-cell every time you open a new Excel process, e.g., opening a new Excel workbook, or embedding an Excel worksheet:

Reproduction without think-cell

  1. Close all PowerPoint and Excel windows and make sure that there are no hidden PowerPoint.exe and Excel.exe processes running anymore:
    Open the Windows Task Manager:
    • Windows Vista and Windows 7: Task ManagerProcesses.
    • Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10: Task ManagerMore DetailsDetails.
  2. Open PowerPoint
  3. Insert an embedded Excel Worksheet:
InsertTextObject → choose Microsoft Excel WorksheetOK
  4. Opening an embedded Excel Worksheet the first time takes some time (approx. 15 seconds)

The problem does not happen without Capital IQ. You can temporarily deactivate Capital IQ from its Settings menu in Excel: ExcelInsertS&P Capital IQSettingsDisable Excel Plug-in
