Conflict with Boost Toolkit for Excel: Opening internal datasheet triggers 'STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION'

I have the Boost Toolkit add-in for Excel by WSP Analytics and think-cell installed. When I insert a new think-cell chart or try to open the internal datasheet of an existing think-cell chart, I receive an error message:

Excel crashes afterwards.

The problem can also be reproduced without think-cell.

Reproduction without think-cell

Please perform the following steps:

  1. Open Excel and make sure that Boost is active in Excel.
  2. Start PowerPoint with a new empty file.
  3. In PowerPoint, go to: InsertIllustrationsChartOK
  4. Save and close the PowerPoint presentation.
  5. Open the presentation again.
  6. Right-click on the PowerPoint chart and go to Edit DataEdit Data in Excel
  • PowerPoint shows an error message indicating that the linked file is not available:
  • The linked file is not available. To edit the link, click the File tab. Click the Info tab, then under Related Documents, click Edit Links to Files.

It is not possible for think-cell to automatically avoid this error in Boost. As a workaround, you can temporarily deactivate (or uninstall) Boost. To deactivate Boost in Excel, please perform the following steps:

  1. Open Excel.
  2. Go to: FileOptionsAdd-insManage: Excel Add-insGo... → uncheck Boost → OK
  3. Then go to: FileOptionsAdd-insManage: COM Add-insGo... → uncheck Boost → OK
  4. Close Excel.
