KB0083: Text in MS Graph labels appears to have some unusually wide or narrow font, while other text looks alright

Refer to

If some labels just look slightly heavier than others, refer to KB0016: On the screen, some chart labels look bold although they are not.

Problem

In some occasions, labels created with MS Graph look distorted when the MS Graph object is embedded in PowerPoint. This is a plain MS Graph problem and has nothing to do with think-cell. The following sceenshot shows an example:

Labels created with MS Graph look distorted

Verification

Since the problem is independent from think-cell, you will be able to observe the same behavior when you create a new MS Graph chart in PowerPoint. To do so, in PowerPoint, go to InsertObjectMS Graph chart and hit OK.

Solutions

  1. If you are using VMWare Fusion, change monitor resolution

We have learned from some of our customers that the problem appears when using VMWare Fusion for running Microsoft Windows on a Mac. In that case, it has been reported that changing the resolution of your monitor might solve the problem. This issue is not known for Parallels Desktop. Please refer to KB0095: Can I use think-cell on a Mac? for more information on think-cell on Macs.

  2. Update graphics driver

In some instances it may help to update (or reinstall) the graphics driver. Please refer to KB0051: I received the error message "An error occurred when displaying the think-cell user interface." for a list of links to the support/download pages of some popular computer manufacturers.

  3. Re-install MS Graph

Maybe your MS Graph is corrupted. Please uninstall and re-install MS Graph.

    1. Go to StartControl PanelAdd or Remove Programs.
    2. Find your installation of Microsoft Office in the list of installed programs and choose Change.
    3. Choose Add or Remove Features/ Details and uncheck MS Graph. You will find MS Graph listed under Office Tools.
    4. Confirm to have MS Graph uninstalled.
    5. Repeat steps 1 through 4, but this time check the MS Graph component to have it installed again.

After the reinstallation of MS Graph, the look of the labels should return to normal.
