KB0054: Netmeeting appears to crash PowerPoint
Cause
Netmeeting turns off hardware graphics acceleration when started, even if no connection is made. This slows down the whole computer and prevents think-cell from using semi-transparent pixels in the user interface, resulting in a blocky look. This effect cannot be avoided; it is inherent in the way Netmeeting works.
Unfortunately, in some graphics adapters, turning hardware acceleration off and on is buggy. In this case, the PowerPoint window appears to be dead when Netmeeting is started.
Solution
- Close Netmeeting. If Netmeeting shuts down properly, PowerPoint should return to normal behavior. If the PowerPoint window is still dead, this is probably because KB0053: Netmeeting's Desktop Sharing feature did not shut down properly. Try closing PowerPoint and starting it again.
