KB0049: I know there is an update available but Automatic Update does not start
Solution
The think-cell add-in has a built-in Automatic Update feature. Automatic Update checks online for available updates on every start of PowerPoint. After PowerPoint is started, it takes a few minutes' time until an update is discovered. If even after some time the Update dialog is not displayed, please try the following:
- Check if the think-cell add-in is installed and properly started. If there is no think-cell toolbar in PowerPoint, or if the toolbar is empty, refer to KB0004: The think-cell add-in does not start with PowerPoint
- Check your internet connectivity.
-
Check if you can access secured websites. Try opening
https://www.think-cell.com . If your web browser returns an error message saying the website could not be accessed because of your security settings, please contact your IT support department. - Check the availability of your update server. This is usually www.think-cell.com, but it may also be some dedicated server within your company network. If you are unsure, ask your IT support.
-
Check if Automatic Update is disabled in the registry:
- Close PowerPoint if it is running.
-
To start regedit, go to
- Start → Start Search in Windows Vista and Windows 7
- Start → Run in Windows 2000 and XP
-
Open the branch
-
if you are using a 32-bit versions of Windows.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Software\ →
think-cell\updates -
if you are using a 64-bit versions of Windows.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Classes\ →
Software\think-cell\updates
-
if you are using a 32-bit versions of Windows.
- Check the 'enabled' setting. If the value is not '1', change it to '1'.
- See if there is a corresponding setting in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER branch. If there is, ensure that it is also set to '1'.
- Start PowerPoint and see if Automatic Update starts. Even when everything is working fine, it might take a few minutes after PowerPoint was started until the Update dialog is displayed.
