KB0004: The think-cell chart add-in does not start with PowerPoint
or:
There is no think-cell chart toolbar in PowerPoint
or:
The think-cell chart toolbar in PowerPoint is empty

PowerPoint refuses to run the think-cell chart add-in. There are several possible causes.

Refer to

Possibly KB0005: PowerPoint automatically disabled the think-cell chart add-in

Cause

The macro security settings in PowerPoint may keep the think-cell chart add-in from running.

Solution (PowerPoint 2000-2003)

  1. In PowerPoint 2003 or earlier, open the Tools menu and go to MacroSecurity....
  2. Switch to the Trusted Sources tab.
  3. Ensure that the box Trust all installed add-ins and templates is checked.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Close PowerPoint and restart it to see if the think-cell chart toolbar is available.

Alternatively, you may be prompted with a Security Warning dialog on the start of PowerPoint, displaying think-cell's security certificate. To use the think-cell chart add-in, check the box Always trust macros from this source and click Enable Macros. 'think-cell Software GmbH' will then be in the list of Trusted Publishers and it is not necessary to check Trust all installed add-ins and templates.

Solution (PowerPoint 2007)

  1. In PowerPoint 2007, open the Office menu in the upper left corner of the window and click PowerPoint Options.
  2. Go to Trust Center and click the button Trust Center Settings....
  3. Go to Add-ins and see if the options Require Application Add-ins to be signed by Trusted Publisher and Disable all Application Add-ins (may impair functionality) are checked. Please clear these options. The option Require Application Add-ins to be signed by Trusted Publisher can either be cleared (not recommended) or you can add 'think-cell Software GmbH' to the list of Trusted Publishers.
  4. Go to Trusted Publishers. If 'think-cell Software GmbH' is not in the list of Trusted Publishers, follow the steps below to add it there.
  5. Go to Macro Settings and make sure that the option Disable all macros with notification is selected.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Close PowerPoint, restart it and create a new blank presentation. A message bar appears which reads "Security Warning: Application add-ins have been disabled". Click the Options button in the message bar.
  8. In the dialog that displays think-cell's security certificate, select Enable all code published by this publisher.
  9. After hitting OK, 'think-cell Software GmbH' can be found in the list of Trusted Publishers, and think-cell chart runs without any warning coming up again.

Cause

The think-cell chart add-in may not be installed or the installation is broken.

Solution

(Re)install think-cell chart.

Cause

If think-cell chart is installed on a Windows Vista system for a single-user then, for security reasons, the think-cell chart add-in will not be loaded if the user has administrator rights and UAC (User Account Control) is disabled.

Solution

Enable UAC (User Account Control):

  1. Click Start and then open Control Panel.
  2. In the Control Panel, click User Accounts and Family Safety (or User Accounts if you are connected to a network domain).
  3. Click User Accounts.
  4. Click Turn User Account Control on or off.
  5. Check the box beside the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer option.
  6. Click OK.
  7. When prompted, restart the computer.

Cause

There is a group policy in effect that disables think-cell for the current user.

Solution

Contact the IT department to check whether the group policy settings are correct.
